:star:EDIT 2017-01-24:star:

So today I decided to make a group that is dedicated to collecting art of fantasy birds (see old journal entry below the jumping cockatoo). The name of the group is Feathers-of-Fantasy. If you are interested you can already become member and start submitting art! Since there is a global submission limit of 10 per day (per person), I need all the help I can get to fill the group!

Arrow Bullet (Dark Blue) - F2U! :iconfeathers-of-fantasy:Arrow Bullet Left (Blue) - F2U!

If anyone is interesting in becoming a contributor, please send me a note!
Thanks for considering!!

 I'M A BIRD - Icon

-- 2016-08-21 --
Does anyone of you know of groups that are focused on collecting art of fantasy birds (species and characters), including mythological ones or hybrids?

The only ones that I know of, are
:iconeverything-winged: (also collects non-avian winged animals)
:iconornomythology: (looks deserted).

Of course there are plenty animal or bird groups that accept fantasy species as well. I'm very interested if you know some groups that accepts fantasy birds, but I especially am looking for groups that only accept fantasy bird art.

If it is non-existent, I might consider starting a themed group...

I am a biologist, graduated in the field of behavioural ecology. My passion is with birds, and I want to learn more about their anatomy, behaviour and taxonomy and especially about (companion) animal welfare. But another passion of mine is fantasy, and my best friend FelisGlacialis (aka Mystic) introduced me to a world in which siderians and other fantasy animals live. So, it might be obvious that I draw a lot of birds and fantasy creatures (especially siderians!). I also drew quite a few human portraits with pencil in the past, and I want to do this again, but with less humans and more birds! I like to continue drawing both traditionally and digitally, so I am practicing both.

Anatomy is important to me. I learn(ed) a bit about that by doing dissections, skeleton crafting, and looking at lots and lots of photo references. Difficult, but worth the effort.

The music I listen is metal, rock or alternative, and most instrumental music.

- "Why should I respect a capricious, mean-minded, stupid God who creates a world which is so full of injustice and pain?" (Stephen Fry on God: www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5RtDp…)
- "Logic is for people who are too lazy to aimlessly try things out." (Adventure game 'Deponia', character Rufus)

In memoriam
My grandfather (mother's side) passed away a year ago. I didn't know him that well, mostly because he suffered of multiple sclerosis, a very nasty degenerative disease of the nervous system. He had difficulties walking (was bound to a wheel chair) and speaking (he could understand everything, but was very slow and limited in his response, even though he wanted to). Hard to admit this, and my cousins never understood this, but I didn't know how to cope with that. However, that said, I really respected his mental stability, his generous and positive thinking and his strong will to life despite his disease. My grandparents always said "Don't focus on what you can't do anymore, but focus on what you still can", and also "Enjoy the little things in life". He enjoyed classical music, he could really dream away, waving his hand with the melody of the music (as good as possible), sometimes tears in his eyes of pleasure. His hearing never faded, which was very lucky for him. He also liked fuchsias, so had many different species in his small garden and later on the balcony. During his last few days, I also learned that he had an aviary with singing canaries in his early days, when he was still fit. Which was a very pleasant surprise for me as a bird lover! These are connections that I found with my grandfather: love for nature, love for music and perseverance. Despite the distance that I (unconsciously) had created, he was a great man.

I'd like to add here as well that he always enjoyed going to a very famous Dutch theme park called 'The Efteling'. A beautiful park with great music. He choose this piece as his farewell 'song' at his cremation ceremony, a remix from Efteling music that is played during an impressive water fountain show: Efteling - Aquanura show
